2021/2022 Baseball Tryouts


API Baseball Academy Tryout Schedule 2021-2022


  1. How many tryout dates should my son attend?  We recommend new/prospective players attend 2/3 tryout dates with the first and second dates as priority. Current players should attend 1/3 tryout dates.
  2. When will we be notified if my son makes the team?  Player invitation emails will be sent within 24-hours of the completion of each tryout date. Families will have 24-48 hours to accept roster position.
  3. What is the team's schedule (i.e. practices, games, tournaments, etc.)?  Each player invitation email will include an overview of the team's practice frequency and league/tournament schedules.
  4. What is the financial commitment?  Each player invitation email will include a breakdown of the total team fees. A deposit will be required at registration and the remaining team fees balance will be
    paid monthly from October 2021 - July 2022.


8u - Chad Morris8U – Chad Morris

Chad Morris has coached youth sports for over seven years, including baseball, basketball, and soccer. His coaching philosophy focuses on fostering solid fundamentals and a strong mentality in every athlete he coaches. He played baseball at the collegiate level for one year at Ferrum College. At Bowie High School, Morris was a multi-sport Varsity athlete, including a 3-year starter in baseball, a 3-year letter/starter in soccer, and a 4-year letter in swimming. He was named Captain of the baseball, soccer, and swimming teams for one season each. In 1999, he earned an All-met honorable mention in baseball. This is Coach Chad’s third season coaching for API Baseball Academy.

9U – Andrew VanLandingham9U – Andrew VanLandingham

Andrew VanLandingham grew up playing baseball in Florida. After high school, he joined the baseball team at St. Johns River Community College as a preferred walk-on. VanLandingham earned a starting position early in the spring season and an athletic scholarship for his sophomore season. He was named 2nd Team All-Conference and St. Johns River Community College Male Student Athlete of the Year. VanLandingham continued his college baseball career at Henderson State University, located in Arkadelphia, AR. He ended his college career as a .300 hitter. This is his third year coaching for API Baseball Academy.

10U – Kacy Jenkins10U – Kacy Jenkins

Kacy Jenkins was born and raised in Maryland. During his years at Howard High School he was two-time All Howard County 1st Team and a Captain of the Team in 1997. A four-year starter at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) he was among career leaders in doubles, homeruns, at bats, RBIs, and games played. He was the 2001 WMC Offensive Player of the Year, the Team MVP, and two time All Centennial Conference. He spent over a decade teaching at Howard County’s Rich Jenkins Baseball School. Most recently, Kacy was a Head Coach of API 8U and API 9U. This is his third year coaching for API Baseball Academy.

11U – Clint Jones11U – Clint Jones

Clint Jones is a former varsity football and baseball player from Paint Branch High School. During his time at University of Maryland, he first began coaching American Legion Baseball. Clint has three sons ranging in age from 9 to 19, all that have played baseball since they were 4 years old. He has over 12 years of travel baseball coaching experience working with ages 8U to 19U. Clint leads youth athletes, focusing on player development and team building. This is his third year coaching with API Baseball Academy.

12U Blue – Stephen Vaught12U Blue – Stephen Vaught

Stephen Vaught is the Founder and President API which opened its doors in 2004. He has over 25 years’ experience working with athletes of all ages and sports. Stephen is an experienced travel baseball coach with over 10 years and 500 games under his coaching belt. In addition to his role as President of API, Stephen currently serves as the Director of Baseball Operations for API Baseball Academy.

12U Red Rick Friend12U Red - Rick Friend

Rick Friend was born and raised in Southern California where he played travel baseball throughout the state. Second in his division in homeruns, he averaged over .300 while throwing as a starting pitcher in high school. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in the 1st Infantry Division. He served in multiple combat tours to Afghanistan and Iraq where he trained and led both US and coalition forces on the battlefield. Coach Friend now trains and leads youth athletes and has over 13 years of youth sports coaching experience. With two league championships under his belt, Rick has spent the last three years building and coaching travel baseball teams. His coaching philosophy focuses on player improvement, mental development, and character building. This is his second year coaching with API Baseball Academy..

13U – Brandon Ernest13U – Brandon Ernest

Brandon Ernest attended and played baseball for Riverdale Baptist High School where he held an all-time record of 111-13. He and his team were 3x private school state champions (2011-2013) and NACA National Champions (2014). Ernest held a career batting average of .318 and was named to the 1st team All-Gazette (2014). Ernest attended and played collegiate baseball for Farmingdale State College. In 2015, he led Farmingdale State in ERA (2.30). In 2016, he led in RBIs (18). In 2018, he led in On-Base Percentage (.423), walks (17), and stolen bases (13), and held a 0.00 ERA. To this day, Ernest holds the Farmingdale State record for most stolen bases in a game (6). This is Ernest’s third year coaching with API.

14U – Pat Boucher14U – Pat Boucher

While being a highly recruited Pitcher and setting the MD State HR record as a hitter at Severna Park High School, Coach Pat Boucher earned a Scholarship to Pitch at Charleston Southern University and eventually Indiana University. During that time, he also played in the renowned Cape Cod Summer League, playing for the Harwich Mariners and then winning a Championship with the Brewster Whitecaps. After college, Pat also played Professional Baseball in the Frontier League, winning a League Championship with the Richmond Roosters. Coach Boucher moved on to run a Baseball/Softball training center where he was professionally trained to instruct the skills of the game in the cage and on the field. He has coached Youth and Showcase Baseball since 2002. This is his fifth year coaching for API Baseball Academy.

16U Red - Chad O’Brien16U – Chad O’Brien

Chad O’Brien was a starter on the 1991 Northeast High School Baseball Team, which was ranked the best team in Maryland by PBR. He was a 2x All-County selection (Anne Arundel County) and 2x state champion at Northeast High School. O’Brien went on to play baseball for the University of Maryland where he was a 4-year letter winner and a 3-year started in left field. He has over 7 years of travel baseball coaching experience.
